Both contests were wet and sloppy, including at the brand new Meadowlands stadium which caused a brief weather delay before the Jets-Ravens kickoff. Despite substantial off-season additions, the Jets were unable to execute on offense to give the Ravens the win.http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=300913020

Arrowhead Stadium, the site of the Chargers-Chiefs game, also saw rain during the match, causing difficult conditions for both teams. Despite the weather, the Chiefs opened the year strong with key plays on offense, defense and special teams to become the only AFC West team to earn a week one victory.http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=300913012

The 2010 Monday Night Football season kicked off on September 13, 2010, with two games. In the earlier game, the New York Jets took a loss as their home opener as they were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens. After a short rain delay, the New York Jets christened their new stadium but fans were silenced early as the team failed to execute on offense. Ray Lewis and the Ravens limited young quarterback Mark Sanchez and the Jets to just six first downs in the game, tying a franchise low set in 1976.http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/18078/jets-start-season-more-sloppy-than-super

Jets' nose tackle Kris Jenkins left the game in the first quarter with a knee injury, the same knee that sidelined him for 10 games in 2009.http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81a8324a/article/mri-scheduled-for-jets-dt-jenkins-after-knee-injury-vs-ravens?module=HP_cp2

Despite early turnovers by the Ravens, New York tallied just three field goals in the game. The Jets gave the Ravens 125 yards in penalties alone, something New York head coach Rex Ryan described as "a joke."http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/18078/jets-start-season-more-sloppy-than-super

San Diego Chargers 14 at Kansas City Chiefs 21

In part two of the double header, a new-and-improved Kansas City Chiefs squad rallied to stun the San Diego Chargers. Just a few possessions later, rookie receiver Dexter McCluster came up big on special teams when he set a franchise record with a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown to give Kansas City the 21 to seven lead going into halftime.http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010091301/2010/REG1/chargers@chiefs?module=HP_headlines#tab:recap/recap-channels:cat-post-recap-full-story

Elated with the performance after finishing the 2009 campaign in last place in the AFC, Kansas City head coach Todd Haley remarked "This is a big win for us. But it can't be too big."http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010091301/2010/REG1/chargers@chiefs?module=HP_headlines#tab:recap/recap-channels:cat-post-recap-full-story
